Homes England under pressure to ‘level up’

Homes England’s emphasis on being a housing delivery agency is expected to change to one involving a greater focus on regeneration. The Times newspaper has reported Homes England’s chairman Peter Freeman, co-founder of developers Argent famous for the successful regeneration of King’s Cross, is to conduct the review. The agency has been criticised for focussing on developing land in places where houses are expensive to buy. Its 2018 strategy set out that 50 per cent of its funding should go [...]

Budget omits VAT cut on green home improvements

SME builders are disappointed with chancellor Rishi Sunak’s decision not to include a VAT cut on green home improvements in the latest budget. The Federation of Master Builders, FMB, described it as a glaring omission of a long-term plan to make homes greener. FMB chief executive Brian Berry said: “The chancellor has missed an opportunity to show global leadership with a long-term plan to make our homes greener, healthier, and more affordable to run. “The government’s commitment to green growth [...]

CBI Economics analysis discovered the cut would offer an extra £25bn in goods and services to the UK economy at a cost of £2.8bn to the government in lower fiscal contributions. The survey, conducted for the Federation of Master Builders and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, [...]

When it comes tom accessing a loan, bridging loan, bridging finance or other types of loans, low credit or adverse credit can be one of the biggest stumbling blocks to getting the finance you need. What is a “desktop valuation”?

A desktop valuation is, as the name suggests, something that's used by property surveyors and property finance companies to undertake valuations without having to physically attend the property. Building industry ups the ante to get reverse VAT scrapped

Scottish National Party MP Kirsten Oswald has already tabled an early day motion calling for the controversial new regime to be dropped. Converting commercial property to residential

Converting commercial property to residential isn't always the easiest pursuit, and very much depends on the type of commercial property you're looking to develop. Given the rapidly changing face of the UK high street and commercial property in general, thanks to events of the past year or so, there has been a huge surge in demand for converting this type of property. There is an argument to be had that commercial property was, by and large, changing quickly anyway. Shops, [...]
